(PG-13/2014/80 min.)
In Polish with English subtitles
In 1962, an 18-year-old novitiate nun (Agata Trzebuchowska) is instructed to meet her only living relative---an aunt---before taking her vows. The aunt (Agata Kulesza) reveals disturbing information about the girl's background and takes her to a place where secrets from the past are buried. Identity issues and life determining choices are at the core of this stark, thought-provoking drama, deliberately paced by director (and co-writer) Pawel Pawlikowski and strikingly presented in black and white imagery.
